On my way home one day I noticed a couple of turkeys in a pasture not far from where I live. I keep dry cat food in my car in case I come across certain animals that will come closer when I toss a handfull. I tossed out cat food towards the hen and she came right over to me, though she didn’t actually eat the cat food. The tom followed the hen because that’s what tom turkeys always seem to do. I took a number of pictures of the pair when the owner came over to the fence and chatted with me about the birds. I learned that his tom had been a wild turkey a friend had given to him. When he put it out in the pasture, the bird stayed. I also learned that the blue coloring on the tom’s head was caused by him holding his breath. It’s part of his posturing. So these guys are an example of holding your breath until blue in the face! Pretty cool!
